Supporting Unicef programme Climate-smart villages

The HE Space Children's Foundation (HESCF) is continuing its business buddy partnership with Unicef by supporting another project in the south of Madagascar. Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world with 42% of children under the age of five suffering from malnutrition. Access to clean water is also severely limited. The southern part of the country has been particularly affected by climate change leading to food insecurity and failed crops.

The Unicef programme, Climate-smart Villages, which HESCF is supporting, is helping 20 villages by providing clean drinking water (through the installation of water pumps and reservoirs, pipes and irrigation systems) and by building sustainable provision for electricity. It also provides eco-toilets that operate without water and teaches children and their parents about climate change (for example, by setting up a vegetable garden in schools). The goal is to create a green and sustainable environment for 50,000 people, half of whom are children. Click here to watch the movie.

This project resonated with the HESCF Board as an innovative and practical way to support vulnerable children in their daily lives, helping them to learn and thrive.
