Vocational Training for Teenage Mothers

The young people of Congo have been hit hard by the period of armed conflict. Many people have had to deal with looting, rape, burned houses, abductions and forced labor. Thankfully most of the weapons are surrendered, but lack of training, traumatic experiences and extreme poverty make the future uncertain for many young people.

The girls in particular are in a vulnerable position. Sexual abuse and prostitution for survival is common. The number of teenage pregnancies is high. Once the girls become a mother, they lose their prestige in the village. HE Space has started a cooperation with ZOA and supports two projects. The first project HESCF supports is focused on teaching  these vulnerable teenage mothers a trade so they can support themselves and their children.
